On minor fast days ( besides the Fast of Gedaliah, whose Selichot are preempted by the Selichot of the High Holidays ), some communities recite Selichot after the conclusion of the Shacharit Amidah.
These fasts include : Tisha B'Av, Seventeenth of Tammuz, Tenth of Tevet ( all of the three dedicated to mourning the loss of the destroyed Temple in Jerusalem ), and the Fast of Gedaliah.
When recited on Fast Days ( other than the Fast of Gedaliah which falls in the days of Penitence ) the phrase Barech Aleinu ( " bless us " ) in the 4th verse is recited instead of the usual Chadesh Aleinu ( " renew us " ), and " Zochreinu " ( remember us ) is recited in verses 19-23 in place of " Kotveinu B'Sefer " ( inscribe us in the book ).
In connection with the fall of Jerusalem, three other fast-days were established at the same time as the Ninth Day of Av : these were the Tenth of Tevet, when the siege of Jerusalem by the Babylonians began; the Seventeenth of Tammuz, when the first breach was made in the wall by the Babylonians; and the Third of Tishrei, known as the Fast of Gedaliah, the day when Gedaliah was assassinated in the time of the Babylonians following the destruction of the First Temple.
